I am totally distressed watching the news about the terrible ecological disaster that happened at Monday afternoon in my country. I cannot imagine the long-term consequences of this at the environment and this people's life...

You can read about this in detail here:
news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101006/ap_on_bi_ge/eu_hungary_sludge_flood

According to this morning's news, 6 people are still missing, they are dead presumably, and a 1 year old kid has died as well.

HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN???

HOW CAN WE HELP?

I've seen news about this - this is really terrible, hard to imagine it's reality and not some catastrophic movie. And how it will affect the future of this region and all rivers around? Horrible...

Indeed it is. Nobody knows at this moment how and when will this region be restored... *sad sigh*

I saw that on the news yesterday. I still can't believe it! They said it would take many years to neutralise the damage done to the environment. Rivers and soil alike. I heard about the victims and all the damage done to houses, roads... it has already affected so many people.

This is a terrible tragedy. SO many people, they lost everything, the environmental catastrophe, the victims. This is uncomprehending absolutely. I wish I could help them somehow. *sigh*

Today on the news they said that they still haven't figured out how to stop it. These chamicals are still pouring out from that plant, aren't they? They said the wave is heading towards Austria now. This is a huge tragedy, my dear. For people, animals, environment. And all those people who suffered injuries. They said that the burns are worse than from fire or acid! My heart goes out to all the victims of this unimaginable tragedy.

I heard about it yesterday, and I didn't understand the enormity of the disaster (I've heard only, "There was some chemical leak somewhere in Hungary") until I've seen the pictures and compared the size of trees to the size of the giant pool of red mud, and then it hit me. It looks like a scene from an apocalyptic movie. :(

And then the news today about the dead, the burned, and all the damage. God, I don't know even what to say. :(

Neither do I. What I don't understand at all, how it is possible to use such a technology in the 21th century, in the middle of Europe that produces this enormous volume of dangerous material, causing such a terrible diseaster! This is unacceptable.:(
